Matting

Matting photographs before you frame them is more important than you think. It gives the print its own unique presence and space.

The mat can be any colour but white and poster black are a good choice for monochrome, the examples below are poster black.

Images should be mounted on acid free backing board, the mat is hinged with tape, the print is only fastened at the top, because paper expands and contracts with changes in humidity and space must be allowed within the frame for the paper to “move” from side to side and top to bottom.
