Intro
Computer science is infinite; every week there are new editing products available to give the photographer new tools to work with. The software choice becomes confusing, costly, and no real workflow or style is established through constant change.
Contrast Grading is based on wet darkroom techniques that have not changed over many years. The switch from chemical process to digital is a totally different way of working, but the principles still remain the same; camera exposure, paper exposure and paper grading are the key factors now as they were before. The skill is in visualizing where to add contrast and exposure in editing. Fortunately there are tools in the digital darkroom that can emulate the wet process.
Martin's work is exhibited and sold around the world. Exhibition's in the UK will show that once mastered, Contrast Grading works. The proof can be viewed in his finished prints.
The videos on this disc will show you how to process a colour Raw file from capture to the finished monochrome image using plugins that have close similarities to the chemical darkroom.
The process is easy to follow for beginners, advanced workers will find the workflow of interest. Easy to read text boxes as the video is running with the ability to pause the frames so text can be copied or studied in greater depth.
The plugins used in the tutorials are:
Imagingfactory Pro [included on the disc]
Crispimage Pro [not included]
PhotoKit [not included]
Note:
The plugins are suggestions, you do not have to buy them to follow the tutorial, Contrast Grading is a form of increasing and reducing contrast selectively. I have found imagingfactory INCLUDED ON THE DISC very good at this and use it in my own workflow. Crispimage Pro is another plugin I use. Without buying these DOES NOT make the tutorials redundant. It's the principle behind it and application of the workflow that is important. You can use curves for increasing contrast, Photoshops Smartsharpen, and again curves or levels for other functions in the tutorial.
The video is how I edit my images, the plugins are secondary and a bonus if you have them or purchase them, but the workflow with or without them is the same.
